Few Habitat for Humanity homes built in N.H.

Monday July 7, 2008

MANCHESTER, N.H. (AP)

Only 50 Habitat for Humanity homes have been built in New Hampshire in the last three decades because of a shortage of land, not volunteers or potential homeowners.

The organization uses volunteer labor to build homes for low-income families. Habitat for Humanity has numerous chapters in New Hampshire, but some have never built a home because no land has been donated and it's too expensive to purchase.

The Greater Manchester Habitat for Humanity chapter is building its first home in 10 years. The Merrimack Valley chapter, which is based in Massachusetts but covers several New Hampshire towns, has never built a house in New Hampshire.
