Three Mad River Valley towns pledge to reduce energy use

Three central Vermont towns are vowing to reduce their energy use to save money.
Voters in Warren, Waitsfield and Fayston have approved Town Meeting Day articles to reduce energy consumption in the area by 10 percent by 2010.
The nonbinding resolution was introduced by Carbon Shredders, a local group of area residents.
Roni Donnenfeld, a member of the group, told Warren voters that the ``10 by 10'' initiative is intended to save the town some money and help the planet along the way.
The resolution calls on residents and businesses to reduce their carbon footprint by 10 percent in two years, but no one is obligated to participate.
Carbon Shredders will host a workshop March 18 to teach residents how to save energy and calculate how much they have saved.
