Patrick Leahy's Increasing National Role

From illegal wiretaps to the scandal over the political dismissal of U.S. Attorneys, Patrick Leahy has emerged as his party's point person against the administration. For this speical two-part series, VPR's Bob Kinzel traveled to Washington to look into Leahy's new role.


Leahy emerges as point person against administration
Patrick Leahy is at the forefront of opposition against the Bush Adminsitration's policies on Iraq, Guantanamo Bay, wiretaps and the political dismissal of U.S. Attorneys.

Leahy puts Judiciary Committee at front line of controversy
Congress and the White House are facing a showdown over a fundamental constitutional question. The confrontation concerns the balance of power between the executive and legislative branches.
