Opera Host
Troy joined VPR in 2007 as an alternate host for Saturday Afternoon at the Opera. As Music Director of the Vermont Youth Orchestra since 1995, he has overseen a period of tremendous growth and received seven ASCAP Awards for Adventurous Programming. He has also conducted the Middlebury College Orchestra since 2004. Troy has been a popular guest conductor the Vermont Symphony Orchestra, the Opera Company of Middlebury, the Vermont Mozart Festival, and many other groups. He has gained international attention for his collaborations with Trey Anastasio (formerly of Phish), including two albums on Elektra Records. Governor James Douglas recognized his contribution to Vermont's cultural life by proclaiming April 17, 2005, as "Troy Peters Day" in Vermont. Troy is also a composer and a versatile instrumentalist who not only plays the viola, but has also performed on tenor banjo and electric guitar with symphony orchestras.
